It seems to me Trump is taking the lead of Netanyahu, who without any accountability accomplished the worst crimes of crimes, attacking several sovereign nations in the process. I think Trump admired Netanyahu for that, and that's maybe one reason Trump supported Bibi as much as he did. Now, Trump is emboldened perhaps more than he ever was, and maybe even want's to out due Bibi, overconfident that there will be nothing to stop him.
“Narco terrorism” means the same thing as “antifa” - words that mean whatever Trump needs them to mean at the moment. It’s kinda like how quickly he figured out “national security” was the magic incantation that made his every desire become real.

The euphemism that has stuck in my brain is one that the Obama administration used for a kill list, which they called a 'disposition matrix'. Not only is it really ghoulish, but you just know the worst McKinsey bro came up with it.

This is a really strong article. I appreciate how it doesn’t reduce this moment to a simple good versus bad story. That’s also what I tried to do in my own piece. Maduro deserves to face justice and the relief many Venezuelans feel is real and valid. At the same time, it’s important to ask how power is being used, what legal and political precedents are being set, and what comes next for Venezuela. Holding those questions doesn’t take away from the suffering. It’s a way of taking the future seriously.
How interesting to learn what a teacher at your fancy, elitist $40,000/year K-12 private school said. The United States is a Constitutional Republic not a democracy. Our founding fathers had nothing but negative things to say about democracy. Madison said that democracy was a vile form of government. Adams said democracy never lasts long.
God forbid we become a democracy.
The action is Venezuela is an extension of the Monroe Doctrine. There are many variables as to our intervention.
Both right and left should not be trusted. However democracy, socialism, communism are all disasters. Unfortunately or fortunately a Constitutional Republic is the best form of government there has been.
Hopefully this won’t be a quagmire and I’d rather see the US be more of an isolationist. If we annex Greenland then I’ll cede the argument.
