American capitalism is intentionally designed to keep the poor that way, the ignorant that way, and those with obscene wealth always growing wealthier. It's a bad system, and all of us who are not multi-billionaires should demand that multi-billionaires be prohibited. That much wealth is extremely toxic and just reinforces the narcisstic personality disorder that Musk and other mega-rich suffer from. Eat the rich.

Gated communities are a symptom of everything I hate about exclusion mentality, and have for many years. I confess I haven’t quite tied all of these together until just in the past few years. But that one was too obvious - there’s a big difference between a gate on an individual’s property versus an entire neighborhood telling all us Poors that “you’re not Our Sort.”

The late Carl Perkins, of all people, put my feelings into words, saying he’d never wanted a mansion on the hill with the iron gate, because “that gate keeps your fans out, but it also keeps you in. My life’s been lived open.” 😎

As Argentine, I can’t explain how important to open up this debate as you’re proposing. The far right candidate has just in the primary elections, and the whole landscape has massively shifted to the right. The same one neoliberal bs that we had in the 90s, and people are VOTING for it. It’s such a massive problem of, yet again, bi-partisan system that no longer works. People are tired and hungry.... and get seduced by an authoritarian guy who shouts “change” and claims “it’s an atrocity to say that when there’s a basic need, there’s a right”. 🤡
