Becoming a fisherwoman in Okinawa or goat herder in Sardinia and surrounding yourself with community and an ethos of outdoor labor seems like the evidence-based way to “live forever”. But probably harder to turn a profit selling that sort of lifestyle change. More tubes in orifices it is!
Another great article ✨ these hollow rudderless rich have no intention to make a positive mark on our communities, just lead us further on their treadmills. The influencer life pulls them in too I guess? How bizarre.
Back in early 2020, I was asked to comment on ethical issues in the life extension industry for a program called "How the Ultra Rich are Trying to Live Forever." It's so infuriating that ultra-wealthy people keep coming up with new, absurd ways to claim to "extend life" yet simultaneously refuse to embrace the public health interventions that would extend - and improve the quality of life - of people who currently live the shortest lives. They all claim to want to help humanity, but it's really only the wealthy humans. https://youtu.be/EYXKCfLJXM4?t=760
Molecular oxygen, O2, is an aggressive chemical. As aerobic organisms we basically turn a lemon into lemonade using oxygen in cellular pathway to liberate energy. Short term hyperbaric exposure is good for certain things, but if you want to accelerate aging use it all the time.
It’s funny they wanna live forever. The men mostly right? But they keep grabbing younger & younger wives. Like that helps stay younger. It only makes them look foolish. I don’t wanna live forever & with the GOP budget I may not have a choice with Medicaid cuts. I’ve made my peace with that. Getting weird chronic illnesses in a body that was, until my late 40s, quite athletic, changes perspective. People tell me I look far younger than my 58 years. However, when your body feels old & you know you’ll never figure skate or dance again, well, you deal with it. Even if I was wealthy, I couldn’t make my body do what I want. Snake oil is just that. Who wants to live forever? Not me!
I feel like the fact that he is roping his son into this, publishing their "erection data" on social media, has shades of sexual abuse. Certainly coercive, and a deep invasion of privacy. This whole situation is just so grisly...
I’m guessing he didn’t read Tuck Everlasting in middle school, because that was all I needed to convince me that there were lots of “why nots” when it comes to living forever
!!! This was a fun digression from your usual subjects -- but you always find a way to tie it all back to that revolutionary optimism I've grown so fond of.
Why does he look like a 65 year old who’s somehow 35?
Many people are wondering that haha
Your writing, sir, is incredible. This right here:
“A society grows great when we plant trees in whose shade we know they’ll never sit, not when we attempt to outlive the trees.”

My money is on him going into cardiac arrest. Eventually his heart is going to “fuck right off.”

Totally agree. I wrote about him as a symptom of our larger dysfunctional relationship with death in this two-part series: https://open.substack.com/pub/cosmicwit/p/the-wisdom-of-death-part-1?r=a1he9&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false
