My biggest fear is this becoming a semantics battle and with it, an attempt to minimize the damage that has been done and what is to come next. This is a coup. It doesn’t have to be a visual of the Marines storming the White House.

It is an unlawful seizure of power; they know what they are doing and they are hoping the media reacts to it like Musk’s salute.

Thank you for this excellent article with so much good information to understand what’s happening and practical strategies to fight back.

This is exactly why I'm trying to move back up north. The fight is in DC and will likely be in NY also, which will be a big target of this administration.

Incredibly important post. I am circulating it widely. It reminds us that the resistance will take place IRL, as well as elsewhere.

They need to arrest Elon Musk. The US Constitution is the highest law in the land.

I can't deny America has become a fascist state. It pains me to admit they will weaponize AI and surveillance capitalism in an authoritarian direction without safety.

Would love to see federal workers take a page from GM factory strike of the 1930s where they literally occupied a whole building. Set up camp in the buildings and don’t allow Musk or any of his minions entry. Outside connections can supply food and other needs.

Current federal worker trying to sort out this mess, and one who values working from home. I am lucky to have fantastic people I work directly with, but it is really hard to watch this all unfold. I am also a wounded veteran, so having musk know all my info is very troublesome, and this is just one person's impact.

Rough back of the envelope calculations of my agency cost to the taxpayer to simply change our signature block in emails. Small government agency, one of many, but it cost roughly half a million dollars to pay everyone to change their signature block.

Crazy and scary times, but the shock will wear off and things will progress. Be kind. It's literally all we can offer each other that costs zero dollars.

Do you have thoughts on the utility of the 50 capitals/50 states actions (scheduled for tomorrow) for those of us who can't get to DC?

I lived in D.C. in the sixties. I know full well the city’s capacity for organization. A date was announced and my friends and I showed up. That’s it. Tell us when and where and we’ll show up. Glad to see the custom has not died.😎

What I worry about is what is predictable: Trump will call out some kind of military presence. He wanted Black Lives Matter demonstrators shot in the legs. Only the generals were able to prevent that from happening. But he has demoted and forced into retirement many of those officers, and we should all know that there are people in the military who would be quite happy to shoot demonstrators. There is a lot of misogyny and racism even in the military, given its continuing problems with rape and other kinds of sexual and non-sexual violence. So I worry that the State, in the presence of this naked hatred, will once again start to maim and kill protestors. I suggest that if people intend to demonstrate they wear body armor and helmets.

Any society that devolves into a Jane Crow style state eventually drives many of its young people away and with them ideas, creativity, industry and progress. It becomes more and more about control in the face of looking bad....Perhaps corporate consumerism and digital oligarchy are a worthwhile trade for Ethno-Nationalism and Jane Crow. https://trkingston.substack.com/p/hello-transient-expressionism-part-768
