This is really what I needed to see right now. I’m starting my own Substack partially inspired by the spirit of your work but adding my computer science and tech background to be an informing and principled voice in the storm of tech hype and technobabble. Rock on man keep the struggle
this was so helpful in self reflecting on a writers block I’ve been having trying to navigate myself out of this angry narrative, I appreciate your work and spirit 🤍
Younger leftist here. At a time where the future feels like fumbling through my bedroom in the dark, your writings and others like it are nightlights. Little spots to reorient myself in the torrid darkness.
And, with some effort, I'm showing others our little nightlight too. Feeding the fire until, maybe, we can clearly make out this crazy world we live in. Already my friends are more secure and I'm hoping to help my family too.
Joshua, First time saying hi to you. I am just getting rolling with my substack. I specialize in essays that are four pages, about 1,200 words. I have put a lot of emphasis writing about how I would like to see the left break out of its linguistic and cultural ghetto. My previous writing has been two books on grass roots organizing, one on the history of community organizing in Cleveland, and the other on grassroots environmental organizing. I have been active in the left since 1973 when the overthrow of Allende finally pissed me off enough to cross the Rubicon. I was a member of the New American Movement, and now belong to DSA but not active. I call myself a member emeritus. Retired after a career in housing work. For right now I am a free loader, but hope to decide where I will put my money. That is my introduction.
Thanks for reaching out so personally and directly. I immediately recognized your name and welcomed it but of course I can’t right now connect it up with past posts and specific areas where I feel viscerally
Connected. I’ll think about your project and get back to you and I’m happy and invigorated by your outreach! Looking forward to more interactions.

Excited to see what you write! Definitely needing sobering and politicized voices on that topic right about now. Glad you’re jumping in!

This was so earnest! Thank you JP

I'm originally from Cleveland. 🙂

How do you do organizing, and for what?
That is precisely why I subscribe; you write what I often cannot articulate. And sharing your words helps me communicate. Or hope to.
Thank you for this, Joshua! I will admit I have shared many a screenshot to those who aren't paid subscribers. :)
Your work is much appreciated! Thank you.
