Did it immediately and it feels different already. We're hitting a limit to so many things lately, hoping this will help continue to motivate us all to collaborate in finding solutions that work for us. Enjoy your day, youre awesome 👌

YES! I've had greyscale for just over a year now - you can make your power button a toggle to go between colours too. It's really hard at first, and then you get used to it - so much so that going full colour becomes too much and I prefer greyscale now, my anxiety goes down. You can really get a sense for how much power saturated colour has over our attention!

Just did it! After setting up greyscale:

1. Go to Settings > Accessibility.

2. Scroll down and tap Accessibility Shortcut.

3. Select Color Filters (a checkmark should appear).

Then triple clicking the power button (for my iPhone, it’s on the right side) toggles greyscale and color.

Just greyscaled phone for the first time. And this phone feels more like a device than a portal.

Appreciate your piece— the info statistics and advice. I feel armored up instead of helpless in this fight against addiction. I am sharing this with everyone. ❤️

I lost my phone one day. Was able to track in down, but since then I notice I tend to leave it. So funny that it feels like you can't leave without it. One thing I learned was that you need to at least memorize a couple of phone numbers, so you have someone to call if needed. The addiction is real

Trying this on my phone and iPad. Set up a toggle as I may need to see something work related.

It’s definitely easier on the eyes! Hopefully it will calm the brain too

Yes!! I have had mine on greyscale for the past few days since reading more about the ways in which serene stimulation enters our eyes and feeds right into our nervous system with all kinds of negative impacts. It’s been a big game changer for me and reinforces my commitment to dramatically reducing my kids’ screen time. (Side note: Fortnite is the worse of the worst from multiple standpoints.)

This is such an impactful perspective on life beyond the phone. Aside from the message, I loved the literary brilliance here!

Thank you, valuable advice! I have this scheduled on my Pixel phone and it really does interfere with my random scrolling in the most positive way.

Instructions for Pixel phone users:

1. Settings

2. Digital Wellbeing & Parental Controls

3. Bedtime Mode (turn it On or schedule the timing). There is also a Focus Mode setting, which will turn off all unimportant apps based upon your preferences and schedule.

I highly recommend the Work That Reconnects network (https://workthatreconnects.org/ ) as a place to go to both recognize and grieve the brokenness of current systems - AND to build for an alternate future in connection with others. Joanna Macy, who pioneered this work, has just died - her best legacy would be increased awareness and uptake of the meaningful process of coming into new relationship with the world through this network and the processes it promotes. (It may also help those who are deep in denial to move toward acknowledging their grief and fear - in order to move to active engagement.)

If it seems like the phone has richer or brighter colors than the outside world, turn the brightness down. Most people have the backlight set so high on their phones. I am very light sensitive so mine is very close to off. That means that any colors look more like nature/irl.

Also, the way to deal with feelings of compulsive phone usage is to work on nervous system regulation. Trucks like this are fine supplements, but they can’t stand in for having the connection, creativity, rest and purpose that we need to feel in our nervous systems to be able to disconnect from highly engaging activities.

What a great idea.

I added ‘Colour Filters’ to the accessibility shortcut.

This means you can triple click the home button to toggle colour on and off.

Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut 👍

I did this years ago when I still had an android phone. I haven’t since I switched over to iPhone, but it might be time.
