Hi everyone! For my 150th newsletter I want to announce a May Day sale for paid subscriptions to this newsletter that will run through, you guessed it, May 1st! Both monthly and annual supporting subscriptions are now 20% off, so $4 and $40 respectively. I’ll try to explain real quick why your support would make an incredible difference and help improve the quality of my work tremendously. Then I’ll have two pieces this week to thank everyone who is so generous with their support.
I’m extremely fortunate to have this newsletter, and to be read and shared by so many wonderful people. I try not to talk numbers too much, but there’s no getting around the fact that your support would mean a tremendous amount right now. There are currently around 18,850 subscribers to New Means, with 325 paying readers. I understand that writing about evictions and anti-genocide protests and food being too expensive isn’t going to get me a gig at the Wall Street Journal, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’ll never stop trying to work towards our collective liberation; my writing will always be about building a better world and getting free. But your support would mean a huge amount in taking my work towards to another level of quality, usefulness, and depth.
I’m immensely grateful just to be read, to discuss important topics with you, for your feedback, and for your support. Today my ask is just that another 1% of folks who subscribe to this newsletter lend their financial support, if you’re able. If that percentage of the New Means readership is able to become paying subscribers, it would change my life. It would radically improve my ability to write well thought-out pieces for you by, most crucially, letting me set aside more time to think, research, and write for you.
I know time is precious, we all know it far too well. I wish it weren’t, I wish I had all the time in the world to think with you and write for you and produce my best thought in conjunction with your thoughtful feedback. Unfortunately, at the moment, I don’t. I’m working towards that goal and hope to get there before the year is out. So your support is invaluable to me, and I hope I’m able to repay it again and again for many years to come. A huge, huge thank you in advance, and in the coming days I will publish two pieces for readers who support New Means, culminating with what I hope is an inspiring piece this May Day. Solidarity!
P.S. I want to write about the wave of campus protests, of course, and I hope to have time to do so this weekend, but in the meantime this piece I published two weeks ago entitled “Colleges are attacking students for supporting Palestine” says a good chunk of what I hope to say on the topic. All power to the students, and Free Palestine!
Subscribed! Commenting in case anyone needs help figuring out how to pay.
Substack won’t do it in the app when you click the manage sub button (and it doesn’t redirect you to where you can) so you have to:
- click the share link and open in web browser
- click the subscription box / enter your email
- sign in
- from there you can pay for a subscription
Very easy in web browser. Super confusing from the app!
I hope you double your subscribers! You deserve the support.
I've subscribed! I appreciate what you do and I'm happy to support you for the price of a coffee.
