The most terrifying thing about Elon Musk--and hopefully something that will wake people up--is that he elucidates the sheer potential force of capital by so brazenly using it to forward an ideology. Some media platform is coaxing the overton window in a direction that makes you uncomfortable? Literally pay to shut it down. When you're that rich it's illegal for people to refuse to sell you what you demand to own

Thanks and glad to see it. As a Jewish man who has some expertise on how disinformation and propaganda work, I am really glad to see some action taken on this.

I'm honestly glad to know how Musk got this way. So many times, we see vile people in public life and I don't get it. How does someone get to BE LIKE THAT? But with Musk, it's not that hard to figure out, and now we have an account of his upbringing.

Thank you for this. I didn't realize he had ramped up since buying Twitter. I just assumed he had always been like that. It's scary to realize that someone with that much power and influence can pivot into fascism so quickly.

Oh, no--like Vance he has a whole faux persona going for quite some time. People thought he was this amazing genius, and enlightened --and that he was only investing in corporations to accelerate the decline of fossil fuels...and all sorts of nonsense like this. They would claim he was a climate crisis warrior at Tesla. You had to be online a bit and read the stories dribbling out about him, and remember them. Many people caught on to his schtick a while ago but he continued to be lionized in the media --possibly partly because he spend money on publicists, partly because he hid a lot of things about himself, and partly because everyone rich invested in his companies, and felt like they had s stake in whether he was respected so the stock prices would stay high. It was hard to research him, but not impossible --but you had to put two and two together. By the time he tried to take over Twitter, most people paying attention knew what a creep we were dealing with.

At least, Elon has been sincere in his attempts. I respect his incentives for trying.
